Three Beaches, Three Different Days

They are close, but they are not the same

Visitors often treat the beaches around Charleston as one destination with three names. In practice each one sets a different tone, and picking the right one for the day you have in mind matters more than picking the closest.

Folly leans loose and unpretentious, with a surf culture and a walkable strip. Sullivan Island is quieter and more residential, with a handful of places to eat clustered together. The Isle of Palms is the most family-oriented of the three, with the widest stretch of sand and the easiest logistics for a group carrying gear.

Plan around parking and tide

Parking is the real constraint at all three, especially on summer weekends, and rules differ from island to island. Arriving early solves most of it. Checking the tide before you go solves the rest, since the amount of walkable beach changes substantially between high and low water.
